The latest wave of fake online pharmacies has been caught by the Hong Kong Customs Service, which has seized about 30,000 counterfeit Viagra tablets, worth up to $1 million, on Tuesday, according to a statement from the agency.
It said it had seized the drugs on a routine basis, and had seized the fake versions of the drugs from China.
The statement said that it had seized the drugs from a Hong Kong pharmacy in a “mixed-use” facility. ViagraConnect manufacturer, Pfizer, estimates more than a fifth of men aged over 18 in Britain suffer from erectile dysfunction, but almost half of those over 40 have not sought medical help.
The erectile dysfunction drug will be available in 14,000 stores across Britain and via pharmacy websites.
The tablets will be available exclusively from Boots until 10 April.
Those aged 18 and over will be able to buy the tablets following a conversation with a pharmacist or after filling out an online form. Men can ask to speak to a pharmacist in a private consultation room if preferred.
The pharmacists will determine whether treatment is appropriate for the patient and give advice on erectile dysfunction, usage of the medicine and potential side effects. They will advise men to consult with their doctor no less than six months after buying Viagra so that any potential underlying conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease can be investigated.
A Boots spokesperson said that the man affected by erectile dysfunction should buy the drug themselves wherever practically possible.
Men with severe heart problems, those at high risk of heart problems, liver failure, kidney failure, strokes or those taking certain other medicines, will still need to be prescribed the drug under the supervision of a doctor.
A four-pack of the tablets will cost £19.99 and an eight-pack £34.99.
Men who buy it will be advised that they can take a 50 mg tablet an hour before having sex, but should not use more than one pill a day.
Viagra is is already available as an NHS prescription free of charge for those eligible not to pay for their prescriptions.
The pharmacist will decide how many packs will be supplied in a transaction.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) announced in November it was to steer men away from buying the tablets from. In 2016 £17m worth of unlicensed and counterfeit Viagra was seized.
Kristie Sourial, Pfizer’s medical manager, said: “It’s important to remember that erectile dysfunction is a medical condition, and that the impact often goes beyond the physical symptoms – it can lead to men feeling anxious, depressed and lacking in confidence.
“Our hope is that the availability of Viagra Connect in pharmacies will encourage men who do nothing about their erectile dysfunction to seek help, and encourage those who are inclined to seek help to do so sooner.”

Viagra Connect is a revolutionary treatment for men experiencing erectile dysfunction. It works by increasing blood flow to the penis, helping achieve and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. This is known as a "female Viagra," a revolutionary medication designed to treat women who are experiencing difficulties in achieving or maintaining an erection.
Viagra Connect, also known by its generic name sildenafil citrate, is a medication specifically designed to treat erectile dysfunction. It belongs to a class of drugs called phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors, which work by increasing blood flow to the penis, facilitating an erection when sexually stimulated.
By blocking PDE5, Viagra Connect can help alleviate symptoms of erectile dysfunction, such as headaches, dizziness, and nausea. It is important to note that Viagra Connect should only be used under the guidance of a healthcare professional, as it may not be suitable for everyone.
Sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra Connect, works by inhibiting an enzyme called PDE5, which plays a crucial role in regulating blood flow to the penis. By inhibiting this enzyme, sildenafil enhances the effects of nitric oxide, a chemical in the body that relaxes smooth muscles in the penis, thereby increasing blood flow. This increased blood flow helps achieve and maintain an erection, and may result in a longer and more satisfying sexual experience.
However, the primary mechanism of action of Viagra Connect is to increase the blood flow to the penis, promoting a firm and lasting erection. This is achieved through the inhibition of PDE5, which helps to increase the levels of nitric oxide in the blood. This relaxation of blood vessels in the penis results in increased blood flow and facilitates an erection.
It's important to note that Viagra Connect only works when sexual stimulation occurs. It does not provide immediate relief and can only be used if sexual stimulation is desired. Therefore, Viagra Connect is not intended for use by women or children. It is essential to consult a healthcare professional for safe and effective use of Viagra Connect.
Viagra Connect primarily targets the enzyme PDE5, which is responsible for inhibiting the enzyme PDE-5. By blocking this enzyme, sildenafil improves blood flow to the penis, facilitating an erection when sexual stimulation occurs. By enhancing the levels of nitric oxide, Viagra Connect can promote blood flow, enabling an erection.
